A few days ago a woman who I work with got a visit from her 3-year-old grandson. He is probably the second cutest kid ever. (mine is first, but I may be biased) He loves his grandmother and doesn’t venture too far away from her.
I tried to get him to come to me so I could play with him. (love kids) But he wanted nothing to do with me. When I called him he immediately ran and hid behind her leg. Behind her leg he knew that she would protect him no matter what. Behind her leg is where he found his comfort. Behind her leg is where he found his strength. She stood between him and whatever he was going to face.
We live in a world where people are looking for all the things that the little boy found in his grandmother: protection, comfort, and strength. It is behind God’s leg we find our protection no matter what the circumstance. It is behind God’s leg where we can find comfort. It is behind God’s leg where we can find our strength. God wants to stand between you and whatever you face.
Are you looking for any of these things mentioned? If so, run, sprint, or do whatever you can to get behind God’s leg. You will be safe.
i seem to spend a lot of time there. When i don’t I pretty much end up in trouble.
Good thoughts Michael.
Thanks Bill.
When I started reading your post, I was reminded of Moses asking to see God and he was placed in the cleft of the rock in order that he might see the back side of God as He passed by.
While children are seeking refuge behind their protector’s leg as you have eloquently presented in your post this morning, they are also hiding from what they perceive as danger. What are your thoughts on Christians hiding behind God?
I think I know what you are asking so I will do my best to answer. You asked what about “Christians” who hide behind God: If you are asking what I think you are, I would say that it’s wrong to hide behind God and use Him as an excuse to do some things that are done today in His name. (Hope that is where you were going)
But, for the everyday Christian, who I was referring to, there is an feeling of assurance, when we radicially trust and radically follow Him. When we stand behind and let Him be in the front we are walking safe…..
Dude you really got me thinking.
By the way, I love the story of when Moses get’s to witness God’s Glory in that story.
I’m terribly sorry, but the title just raised way too much imagery of a dog and a fire hydrant. Maybe I’ll recover. Gak.
LOL
I love the illustration and I spend a lot of time there. When I am not there I wish I would have stayed there.
Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks Jim. Totally appreciate you.
Sometimes the right course of action is to take refuge (hide) behind God. Other times we are to stand firm on the front lines, secure in the knowledge that He has our backs.
My prayer is to know when to do which.
Bah, now I have Kenny Roger’s “The Gambler” running through my head…
“You got to know when to hold them, know when to fold em. Know when to walk away, know when to run…”
Fire hydrants and Rogers. What a day.
Fire hydrants and Rogers. What a day.
Such is a day in the life of Michael Perkins
I think Dusty hit what I was after. There are times we take refuge but there are times He sends us with His blessings.
Okay, gotcha…well you got me thinking.
Always loved kids too. A lot of times when I travel and minister at churches, I find 5 and 6 year olds after service to chase around and play with. I just love it!
Glad He’s between us and our enemies and we can stay in the ‘shadow of His wing.’ Thanks Michael.
Jason, thx for the kind words. I am so glad as well bro.
I love how you relate every day situations to truths about God!
Thank you Kevin. I truly appreciate your kind words.
I didn’t recognize the verse, so I had to look it up in KJV
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
Although I chuckled at the thought of running into God’s leg, I see your point here.
He’s my shelter… when I’m weary.
He’s my anchor… in the storm.
Great blog post!
Thanks Duane for stopping. I typically use the TNIV for just about everything when I write or preach.
If we are like my kid, God must have a lot of snot wiped on his back leg. Sorry…I’m just remembering how my 3 year old runs behind me and wipes his snot all over the back of my pants. I’m a human kleenex. I have many uses…one of them being, I gather up snot.
this is a cute post. Great stuff!
Thx MB
